NekoNiTako - 猫に蛸 - [Folk Toy]
• About: A lucky cat, A lucky Octopi, Stack 'em up = Super lucky!! sometimes seen riding on a Koi Fish for even more luck!!!
• History: Neko ni tako are A type of handmade Sagara clay doll, originating in Yamagata prefecture in the 1790's initially produced by Sagara Seizaemon Atsutada, who built Narushima Kiln in the garden of his backyard, which in time became the official kiln of the Yonezawa clan! The practice is still carried on by the Sagara family today!
• Legends: No old folktales associated with NekoNiTako that I could find. Though I suppose technically it is a type of Maneki Neko in that it brings good fortune!
• Pop culture: a NekoNiTako was recently featured as one of the kami in the film Oni (2022)
