About this Cryptid: "A cat missing its head, Just a piece of cardboard where the head should be... Only certain people can see it. it could be a ghost? or perhaps the result of an alien experiment? – The original article was vague:

History: as recounted by "Jim Smith a then 49 year old, sergeant at Woodbourne Correctional Facility, who told the "Times herald record" paper, back in 2003:

"...In Pine Bush, you see things that you dont expect. Ive seen a cat with no head walking across the floor. It just had a piece of cardboard where the head should be, A lot of people in Pine Bush tell me theyve seen that cat. But not everyone can see the cat or the beings. You have to be open to things like that..."
Originally published on June 16, 2003, in a Newspaper article for an article titled "Believers keep eye on Pine Bush sky." - an article about UFO abduction, Rods, Orbs, shadow people and several other paranormal encounters by regular folks & residents of Pine Bush, NY. - The article was later quoted in both "Weird N.Y" [2005] as well as "Monsters of New York" [2013.] (which is how i came across it.)
Sadly, this "Cardboard Headed, Headless Cat" was downplayed in the article, and is only really mentioned once as a foot note at the end of the article; no particular breed of cat, date of occurrence nor any particular location is even mentioned & this "JIM SMITH" sadly does not seem to have any other interviews, it feels like far too much of a generic name to search and find more info about him... [ and really If he was a sergeant, I'd assume the name could have also been a Pseudonym!] - Seeing as the article was written nearly 20 years ago now: it feels unlikely that I'll be able to find more information about it on my own*...
...Looking back further: it seems that "Ghost Cats" are pretty commonly spotted in in New York (and around america in general) and have haunted various buildings since the 1700s, One particularly funny article dates to 1911 where in a "Singing German Ghost Cat" haunts an orchestra at the waldorf – [Trenton Evening Times (New Jersey) · Thu 30 Mar 1911 Newspapers.com] –
Though, I digress, the topic of "New Yorks ghost cats" is a fair bit off topic, isn't it? (probably a topic worthy of its own sticker & article another time soon!!!)
Because of the lack of information, our cardboard-headed, headless cat is difficult to categorize so, is it a cryptid? ... i cant really even call this a "ghost cat" for certain because the article was mainly about UFO sightings, orbs & "Tesla Globes", abductions & general "high strangeness" as its often called. – Was a cat abducted and had its head replaced with cardboard? - Did an ordinary cat get its head stuck in a box?  - Was the correctional facility where Jim worked, haunted? - For now, all we know is it could very well simply be just that: a bit of local folklore, or perhaps an urban legend...
Regardless, As the result of several UFO sightings during the 80's (shortly trailing the UFO boom of the 70's) the small town of Pine Bush touts the title of "Capital of UFO sightings in the northern united states" – They also host an annual UFO fair, have a UFO/Paranormal museum and even have a Hotline that you can call into to report Paranormal/UFO activity. [...As of writing this: I've written to the both the PineBush museum & hotline in hopes that they'll respond with some more information about this "Phantom Cat" which seems to have sparked my imagination enough for me to spend several hours illustrating a sticker & typing out this article.. hahaha.] ~ Updates will be posted below if/when this story develops! ~
*for now, I ask you, dear reader! if you're from Pine Bush area, or know anyone who might have more info about sightings regarding this peculiar "phantom cat" or if you've experienced anything similar in the area, please don't be shy to reach out: I'd love to learn more about it and add it here! hopefully someone local can help me find out more!!

• More about my take: I accidentally stumbled into this one whilst doing research for my sticker/article on The kinderhook blob & sky fish, of course, I'm no stranger to the concept of ghost cats either. – Why a pizza box? - well it's from New York, silly! when you think New York + Cardboard, what comes to mind? - Of course it would be a pizza box!! – I also wanted it to feel a bit like a "Schrodinger's cat" – In a sense, because the original mention was so vague, it's trapped between life, death & a theoretical cursed box. – Now, is that blood it's trying to clean? or pizza sauce? – You decide!!! huhuhu.]
