Fluorescent Freddie. - [Cryptid/Alien/Fearsome Critter.] - [Frenchlick, Indiana, USA, 1965.] - AKA:'Florescent Freddy' "The Jolly Green Giant", "Space-Quatch."

• About this Cryptid: 'Fluorescent Freddie' was a supposed 10ft tall 'mint-green' Sasquatch-like creature with fluorescent glowing red eyes, sighted by 'youngsters' south of the municipal airport, near rural French Lick Indiana, on March 15th of 1965. (An area which the papers  affectionately nicknamed - “The valley of the jolly green giant.”) – The following days the creature supposedly inspired a very short 'boom' of monster hunts & several news articles in the area, with one 16 year old claiming to have spoken to the beast. – However, Freddie hasn't been sighted since… Through the 80s & 90s several reputable books on the subject of Sasquatch mentioned the incident as a footnote, the incident is usually brought up as an early example of "a prank, hoax or 'woo bigfoot'" - it is infamous among bigfoot enthusiasts as “an encounter made up of totally insufficient information with no particular credibility”. - Often dubbed as an early example of a 'Space-Squatch' or perhaps even an 'Alien-Bigfoot' - regardless of his credibility as a cryptid, its a bit of obscure silly sasquatch lore [so, of course, I had to draw it.] folklorically Fluorescent Freddie parallels other critters from the area especially given that hes yet another 'red-eyed-green-monster.

• "No shooting allowed | Red-eyed 'Monster' Eludes Searchers" [Indianapolis News, Mar 15, 1965] -

• "Sharp shootin' [The Herald, Mar 15, 1965] - [Earliest mention of the creature being 'From Space' its also the first article which also refers to the area of the sighting (south of an airport apparently) as "the Valley of the Jolly Green Giant"]

• "Eyes on woods | Monster fans wait to see.' - [Mar 17, 1965] - [mentions with one 16 year old 'David noble' communicating with the creature]

• "It's a bird, it's a plane | well, it's some goldurn thing.'  - [Indianapolis star, July 6, 1975]

• "Sasquatch: the apes among us" [John W Green, 1981] –

• "Cryptozoology A-Z" [ Loren Coleman, Jerome Clark, August 5th 1995] - [Where in 'Florecent Freddie' is mentioned as a footnote and a likely hoax, along side 'Old yellow top' of Ontario canada.]

Loren Coleman of the International cryptozoology museum who also brought Freddie up in a blog post talking about the infamous 'Big Lick Triangle' (a supposed 'geographical Fortean hotspot') blog post by someone named 'Ben Soprano' back in [2015] mentioning his comedical post about a supposed 'Big Lick Triangle' [posted 2013. archived: 2015] - Coleman later brought Freddie up again in a tweet: [2022] when questioned if it was valid to do so, he said: – "Documenting folk tales, rural traditions, and local descriptions of sightings are hardly “accepting woo Bigfoot.” These are, however, segments of the fieldwork necessary to lay the foundation for discovering possible new zoological and hominoid species."  – [I'd strongly agree!] - in his tweet, Loren included what is likely the earliest illustration of Freddie, a humorous comic [below] – [sadly, I've been unable to find a source/date for said comic and loren has yet to respond to my inquirey on the subject, will update my site when/if he does!] :)
