"Ichiren Bozu" (JP: 壱連坊主)
•About this Yokai: is an animated Buddhist Rosary and The Protagonist of "Tsukumogami Emaki" - At the start of the scroll, he tries to lead his friends down the path of righteousness, but being animated prayer beads he comes off a bit preachy... He is quickly interrupted by the antagonist: Aratarō (荒太郎) (a Club/Mace) who inturrupts & beats him close to death just for preaching good advise! - Ichiren flees and lives his life in the mountains where he creates a temple and becomes wiser - The other tools become monsters and enact their plot for revenge against the humans. - At the end of the story the others are forced to repent for their sins, the gods have sent "Holy boys" (Goho-Doji) to stop their rampage. – Unsure what to do, the tools go find Ichiren, who forgives them and allows them to join his sect. - In a nutshell: the moral of the story is basically "Revenge = bad, Buddhism = good" but, its done in a pretty entertaining way!
[The Tsukumogami Emaki] is a picture scroll about a group of tools that where thrown out early angry with being thrown literal curb side and wasted, they start plotting revenge against those that ruined them: • [You can pan through the scroll yourself in HD here] - • You also can read more about the subject and the story transcribed by religious expert, Noriko T.
