•About this Yokai•

Kijimuna (キジムナー) are Probably most famous Yokai (or locally, majimun マジムン) from the folklore of the Southern Islands of Okinawa, Japan! – Kijimuna are tiny, “Large Headed” Tree-Sprites that appear as a wild child & live among the islands numerous Banyan trees in the oceans and swamp lands! – They’re known to be quite helpful to humans as master anglers, crafters and builders!

More than anything, they love the taste of fish eyes, however they do not eat the rest of the fishes meat. (Notably: they prefer to only eat the left eye.) There are a few stories about them helping people catch many fish in exchange for just an eye... (Sightings of beached fish are often blamed on the Kijimuna for this reason.)

They’ve also got a reputation as being quite childish and pulling pranks when they get jealous, so despite their desire to be friends with humans, friendships often end poorly. - Interestingly one of these pranks is to sit on your chest and to cause sleep paralysis: however, similar to Kappa: they despise the smell of humans gas! So, according to some, farting is the best way to scare them away if you’re experiencing sleep paralysis. [I’m curious to know who went around tooting on all these poor yokai!!!!]

There is an annual art & music festival dedicated to them as well.
