Katakirauwa - 片耳豚

• About this yokai:

The malicious spirit of a pig with just one ear (or some other body part removed.) they cast no shadow and are said to have a strong, unpleasant smell, like thick cresol, rubber or tar. Usually spotted in Amami city near city hall where most attacks were said to have happened around 1922. - The demon pig will try to run between your open legs: if they do, it will steal your soul painfully by biting onto your private area... To avoid that fate, cross your legs and watch out for strange pigs at night!! Not much else is written about this yokai but there are several variants to it from the area each with a different body part missing. one variant is the minikirauwa who has only two legs: they attack in groups.

History: Its a yokai from the folklore of Amami Ōshima island, Kagoshima Prefecture, described in [奄美怪異談抄] (Amami Kaiyidan Sho) by Yoshimori Ehara.
