Wara Ningyo - [Curse, Charm] - 藁人形
• About: A doll or an effigy made of straw, tied with string typically into the shape of a human. - These dolls where originally intended to be used for as protective charms against disease. - However: today they've come to be more infamously associated with curses & dark magic (most notably the "Shrine visit at 3 AM" - "Ushi no koku mairi.") - in such dark rituals: Something personal to usually the target is either attached to, or placed inside of the doll. (Usually strands of hair, fingernails or another sort of DNA or a personal item; their full name is written out, or a photo of their face is attached.) wearing a trivet on your head, dressed in all white & tall geta, Seven Long iron Nails, (called Gosunkugi (五寸釘) are then hammered into the doll against a sacred tree Sinboku (神木) over the course of 7 nights. Finally when the last nail is hammered into the effigy's 'head'; some say that the target will feel the pain of each strike. When the final nail is hammered in, the target will die. - Others insist that its a summoning ritual, and that their target will be cursed, tormented or otherwise suffer. - Don't get caught, no witnesses; else the ritual will backfire.
- For more specifics about this ritual see: "Ushi no koku mairi." (i updated the bio since last time too!)
