Shirodokkuri - "White Tokkuri" - JP: 白徳利(しろどっくり) - [Yokai]
• About this yokai: A Prankster Tanuki from Itano district in Tokushima Prefecture: it disguises itself as a White Tokkuri bottle (A ceramic flask, Typically used for pouring sake.) then, it lies on the ground, and waits for someone to try and pick it up; just as they do: It rolls away just out of reach. Whether you're someone who recycles litter, a drunk, (or someone who just enjoys sake enough to drink it off the ground) if the target is determined enough to get the bottle, they'll end up chasing it around all evening before it eventually disappears... -- Its a pretty common Tanuki Trick. if you aren't careful you might trip.
• History: Put simply, Tanuki transforming into objects is a pretty common trope. - It's difficult to find stories about this one specifically, but it is listed among other tanuki pranks in"Awa no Tanuki no hanashi" [1927] (Stories of Tanuki in Awa province.)
