•About this Urban Legend•
A mysterious blank arcade cabinet of urban legend that the US gov supposedly set up in Portland Oregon 1981 as a means of testing mind control— or was it aliens? —or was it haunted?!? —regardless— “Polybius” as it came to be known, lives on in video game trivia infamy as “the game that doesn’t exist.”
Supposedly The games start screen said that it was made by a company called “Sinneslöschen” (which is not quite correct German, essentially meaning “sense deprivation”) – Playing the game was said to have psychoactive effects, to list a few: it was unnaturally addictive, it could cause Hallucinations, Migraines, Heart Attacks, Seizures, Strokes, Amnesia, feelings of impending doom and of course suicide, even long after playing it.
• Pop-culture: Polybius has appeared in everything from The Simpsons [2006] the AngryVideoGameNerd [2017] even Loki [2021] the song, Cabinet man (Lemon demon 2016) was said to be partially inspired by the legend. Needless to say there are several fan made games out there about this game today, and there are dozen more internet ready documentaries on the subject. so i’ll let you do your own research and decide for yourself if its real or not!!!...
