Collection: Tsukumogami (Haunted Antiques)
Tsukumogami: (JP: つくも髪 'tool kami') – are most simply defined as 'Haunted Antiques' or hundred year old objects that have sprung to life/gained a soul, after a long existence of 99+ years of neglect or consistent use. - [The general belief is rooted in animism.] - Many of these objects are out for revenge against those that neglected them or mistreated them, others are just silly, spooky, strange or cute. – Most Tsukumogami where earliest first given their names in the edo period's Gazu Hyakki Tsurezure Bukuro (百器徒然袋) [Toriyama sekien 1784] - (Toriyama based his most of his monsters off of earlier picture scrolls, myth & superstitions which where well known at the time!)
[For clarity: this section also features some tangentially related yokai which disguise themselves as objects! for even more objects with yokai connotations see my Japanese Charms & Noh mask sections! ]
Below are hand-made stickers, each with a biography explaining the creatures history, as lovingly researched; illustrated, designed & re-imagined by @ Sam Kalensky since 2018 & onwards! Please check out my full yokai section, and support my work for even more!
