• About this Critter •
a biologic impossibility & hybrid of a Raccoon + Alligator, often sighted rooting through trash in Montpelier, Vermont, Texas. From a distance it looks like a regular ol' raccoon, it turns around revealing a horribly toothy grin.
“The Monster Spotters Guide to North America" – published July 11, 2007 – refers to them as such: “Not much is known about these strange animals. According to reports they look like something out of the movie ‘Critters,’ resembling raccoons in both appearance and behavior, except that they have fearsome alligator‑like faces.”
There are no other accounts of this monster in earlier literature (that I can find) so maybe its something the author heard of first hand. (He also used “fearsome” & “critters” in the same sentence, so it could be a joke refering to the folkloric fearsome critters.) – There ARE however, plenty of alligator-animal hybrids such as the “Bassigator” or the “Crocidog” (Though, such things are usually the result of Rogue Taxidermy.) - Most researchers know for a fact that that mating between mammals and reptiles is factually impossible: so its often said to be more likely the result of people mistaking a raccoon for an opossum, their long snout for that of an Alligators. – By those standards & because of the uncertainty surrounding its origins I'd liken it to a 'Fearsome Critter' rather than a cryptid proper, kinda feels like it stands on the line anyway.
