Jinshaku – [Yokai|KanNoMushi]

Description

• Cures: as with many of the other mushi, it can be treated with various acupuncture techniques. (unfortunately, these treatments where only written about vaguely and only passed along orally from teachers to students, given the age of the text; they are quite likely lost to time! (Humorously, the Kyushu national museum’s guide book notes, that this one says that “its impossible to explain it all in one sentence!”) – The entry also goes onto mention that the area where this one lives (“below the belly button”) is of the “water element” in “Wu-xing” (Chinese Elemental Theory) (which probably explains why it can move wherever it likes throughout the hosts entire body, unlike most of the others that are confined to one organ/general location)

• History: Yet Another One out of 63 ‘KanNoMushi’ ‘疳の虫’ (germ/parasitic Yokai) from the “Harikikigaki” 針聞書 (“The book of needles.”) – A mysterious book about acupuncture & medical knowledge written in 1568 by a resident of Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
