Description

β€’ Ika – 鰞, ηƒθ³Š – (Squid, Cuttlefish)

β€’ About this sushi: A pearly white, near translucent, tender slice of squid or cuttlefish! often scored with decorative cuts, or lightly seared to stop it from curling! quid are often said to symbolize wealth as their β€˜many legs’ can be seen as a pun or a play on words for β€œOashi”, β€œεΎ‘θΆ³β€ meaning, ‘lots of money’.Β  However β€˜Dried Squid’ (β€œSurume”, β€œι―£β€ ) can also sound like β€œSuru” which means to lose money! – That said; Crispy Dried Squid is another delicious snack which I’d gladly spend money on! – Incidentally nigiri served with ONLY roasted tentacles alone is called β€œGeso.” (δΈ‹θΆ³, げそ) Its said that there are over 100 edible variety’s of edible squid (the most favoured for Sushi are “Maika”, “Surume Ika” & “Yariika”) – It goes without saying that giant squid and octopus both appear widely across folklore the world over.
