Description
• Ika – 鰞, 烏賊 – (Squid, Cuttlefish)
• About this sushi: A pearly white, near translucent, tender slice of squid or cuttlefish! often scored with decorative cuts, or lightly seared to stop it from curling! Squid are often said to symbolize wealth as their ‘many legs’ can be seen as a pun or a play on words for “Oashi”, “御足” meaning, ‘lots of money’ However ‘Dried Squid’ (“Surume”, “鯣” ) can also sound like “Suru” which means to lose money! That said; Crispy Dried Squid is another delicious snack which I’d gladly spend money on! – Incidentally nigiri served with ONLY roasted tentacles alone is called “Geso.” -It goes without saying that giant squid and octopus both appear widely across folklore the world over.
