Haniwa – “埴輪” – “circle of clay” – Terracotta clay figures that sometimes unearth themselves in the rain. – made for rituals & buried with the dead as funerary objects during the Kofun period of Japan. better known in the west as ‘gyroids’ of animal crossing fame.
