•About these Stickers•
The complete* collection of my "Did you Noh?" – series of Noh Mask stickers, explaining the origins of popular Noh/Kyogen masks often seen at festivals or in pop culture, Many of these mysterious masks are also used as a big part of Noh/Kyogen theatre & plays. - Some are Yokai and some are Kami - Noh masks are also considered good luck and can simply be hung on walls to soak up negative energy and bad vibes, - Oni, Tengu and Ghost masks are particularly good at scaring away baddies, While masks like Otafuku or Hyottoko, and the shichifukujin would welcome in business and good fortune. – (So thats what I hope my sticker art will do for you!!) -
• More About Noh masks: There are well over 250 different types of Noh mask, each is hand carved & traditionally made out of wood: Most are carved not to resemble a particular face, but are instead meant to symbolize the character which the actor in the mask is representing. – Depending on how the light hits the mask, it might display a different emotion. – so, Noh is performed very slowly to bring out that feeling: Noh plays are usually supposed to portray a mood, rather than your traditional action-packed narrative story. - For more information about these specific masks & Noh in general, Please also check out my Yokai zine part 2!
