Kamikiri - JP: 髪切り

Kamikiri are Small Yokai with a beaks shaped like scissors and sharp claws like razors, Kamikiri is aptly named for cutting your hair off while you're asleep or when you aren't expecting it! –  why it does this is unknown, (perhaps it likes to eat it like spaghetti?) - Though a trim might sound nice today: in old japan, your hair was often a symbol of status, so getting it lobbed off without your permission would be devastating indeed!!

Kamikiri are also credited with dutifully preventing humans from marrying Yokai (Normally ends in heart break, death or other tragedy.) say for instance a fox or a ghost was in disguise as beautiful bride, Kamikiri is likely to appear and put a stop to the illusion by doing what it does best chopping off all their hair and ruining their illusion - perhaps he isn't all bad.

it appears in some of the oldest picture scrolls including 1737's [百怪図巻] "Hyakki Zukan" - Kamikiri-mushi is also another name for spotted citrus longhorn beetles.
