Canadian Cobra Chicken - [Fearsome Critter/Slang 🇨🇦] - (Latin name: Naja Gallus Domesticus.)

• About this Critter: Beware the vicious Canadian Cobra Chicken! - Named for their long necks and the horribble sound they make, what appears at first to be an ordinary goose, suddenly extends its neck, hisses and reveals itself to be a creature of a much meaner disposition. - They can range in size from that of an average goose to nearly the size of a bus!! - (the truly massive ones are not to be confused with our gigantic glowing goose, Binesi (aka "Big Goose") - Reguardless of their size, Cobra Chickens are In-fact the epitome of Canadas apex predators and are a menace to Birders, Joggers, Bikers, Loggers, Polar Bears, Cougars & Children alike!! - Their serrated bite is particularly poisonous and should be avoided at all costs. - it has been advised that maple syrup makes for an excellent all-purpose cobra chicken repellant & a natural cure to their bite, as such it is important that Canadians keep some maple bonbons on their person at all times, as you never know when a cobra chicken might be lurking nearby, getting ready for a surprise attack...

• History: "The Canadian Cobra Chicken' ("Cobra chicken" is a slang for goose.) a trend which began shortly after a tweet that went viral in 2018. – it spread from there to Reddit and from there pollinated into the general consciousness.

"I work with a guy from Mexico who doesn't speak a lot of English. A Canadian goose made a nest by one of the paddock gates and hissed at him while he was putting horses out. He comes back to us after and says, "I do not like the cobra chicken."" - @Bibliophileq"

Later in 2022 a bird watching book: "North American bird watching for Beginners" [Sharon Stiller, 2022] classified 'Canadian geese' among 150 other North American birds, adding that "birders are more likely to refer to them as "cobra-chickens" because of their long necks and hissing"

Naturally, soon enough a proper "Guide to the Canadian Cobra Chicken" was also published by Melyssa taggart in 2023. "if one is blocking the exit, go out the window, because its the polite thing to do!"

The cobra chicken as a slang word has grown so popular that today in "true Canadian fashion" it now has three different kinds of craft beers [1][2][3] named after it; Last month [January 2024] the Prince Edward Raiders even changed their logo for one day to a cobra chicken (complete with matching jerseys) to celebrate, They even did a "flying V" when they won.

Recently the cobra chicken trend seems to have regained popularity on tiktok, as something of a Canadian 'tourist tease' (similar to the 'Drop Bear' of Australia or even the 'Wild Haggis' of Scotland.) – so, naturally, being a theme to a type of prank or hazing, it falls in the 'fearsome critters' catalogue of North American Monsters.
