The Speedemon – [Fearsome Critter 1925] –

• about this critter: a tiny lightning fast creature with five strong legs, no mouth. It sustains itself entirely on the chase; often seen on cool summer evenings cartwheeling after skittish creatures such as rabbits & quail.

it made its first and earliest appearance in newspapers in artchilds  1922 ‘yarns of the big woods.’

[I’m unsure if its merely coincidence or not… but It strongly resembles the demon & “great president of hell” Buer from 1863’s Pseudomonarchia Daemonum. ((I’ll draw Buer & others another time.)) my guess is thats where Artchilds got their inspiration. But being pre-internet, its fairly amazing to me that an ordinary game warden would know about that, haha. its design could be also be sheer-coincidence!]
