Omoikijuu – “重い奇獣” – [Yokai]

$8.00

Description

Omoikijuu – “重い奇獣” – ‘heavy beast.’ – from “土州奇獣之図并説” – “Diagram of strange beasts in Tuzhou”- it’s a very small & scrawny yokai with all the charms of a tiger striped, bunny eared, Chihuahua described as “heavy, despite its looks.”

The Miyoshi Museums scroll describes the creature in detail: Body length is 29cm & its weight is 2.3kg. (Heavy, but not much heavier than a bunny 🐇 ) it has long whiskers and also does not have hair on its underbelly. – You can also find another couple of pictures of this yokai in the National Diet Library too

There are some theories I’ve read that it could be a servel cat?? but I’ve also read about it being a type of “inugami” controlled by someone named “Saito Zukai” – Saito could also be the creatures name… buuut, its uncertain as to what sort of creature it could actually be.
