•About this Yokai•
“Kame-onna” (JP: 豊年亀) - (aka ‘turtle lady.’ or 'Honengame') - yet another prophetic mermaid yokai from the sea! - An illustration from the Edo period states that she was captured alive on July 14, 1839 in Shingu City, Wakayama Prefecture - (Though its worth note, she or similar yokai have also appeared in elsewhere in Japan, rarely since 1669, shes also listed as one of the "7 Daughters of Fukushimagata lagoon".) - Attracting people with her brilliant glowing shell & Seaweed tail reminiscent of "Minogame" (Another lucky turtle yokai that has lived 10,000 years.) She would deliver prophecies of good harvests or warned of epidemics, droughts & other disasters. - Like Amabie & others, her picture would often be distributed in the news and drawings of it would also be sold as a talisman or luck charm, to ward against evil & bring luck and good health! - Just looking at her will supposedly ward off evil, disease and other ailments!!
