•About this yokai•

Chikushou - チクシャウ

Chikushou appears as a skeletal-monster with a humanoid spine and skull but with legs & arms like a deer or a horse of some kind. its mix matched body parts are all different colors & shades as if it was put together quickly with different parts.

•History & Early Appearances•

The original was included in "妖怪尽くし絵巻" ("Yokai Zukushi Emaki" 1820s?) -  the body parts seem to have been a collage created from a different illustrations, so its thought that she's most likely a Yokai made for the game of telling 100 ghost stories: “Hyakkumonogatari Kaidankai” - Sadly, no story was included with the picture scroll but its possible that at one point in time people would know exactly what you were talking about from the illustration alone.

Chikushou’s name could be translated to mean “damn it!” - but depending how its spelt it could also mean something closer to mean “brute” “animal” or “beast.” - Interestingly: the name is also rarely used to describe the animal-men depicted in various jigoku, hell scrolls.
