Anserbak - [Fearsome critter]

About this critter: The anserbak is A huge bird, sort of like a parrot, but 'a lot gayer in color'  it echoes yodellers back in the woods, mocking anything they yell out. Rarely seen, it always seems to be just ahead of you, just 'round the bend, curious tenderfoot might get lost if they go looking for it. (it could very well be a relative to the snipe.)

[original by ArtChilds published in 1925]

Interesting, but (perhaps a bit off topic) The echo aspect makes this one its feel paralell to the yokai: Yama-orabi of Kyushu lore. - The yama-orabi however seems to operate quite a bit more like a banshee in that if you yell out to it & hear it cry back too many times, you'll die. (In Fukuoka Prefecture, the yama orabi is also used as a boogy man by mothers to frighten their children to sleep. Children were warned that if they stay up too late, a yama orabi will come; so they had better go to sleep soon!) – (I'll draw this yokai & elaborate another time soon.)

Surely its just coincidence, but its still fun to look at similarities, I like that "echo/ voice mimics" seems to be a trope in folklore in general, most directly its a relative to "the snipe"
